After a few days spent exploring the fabled city of Angkor, with its Tomb Raider temples, fly to the buzzing capital, Phnom Penh, where you can go on a choice of outings. Continuing south to Sihanoukville, there’s plenty of time to unwind on Cambodia’s finest beaches, and to explore the surrounding nature. As with all our holidays, we have created lots of free time for you to enjoy as you please. If you would prefer a more ‘complete’ travel programme, we will be happy to oblige. We can also tailor this holiday to meet your exact needs - your holiday, your way.
On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.
After breakfast, head to the temple complex by private air conditioned car, accompanied by your English speaking guide. Begin with a 15 minute balloon ride to view the vast Angkor Complex and afterwards visit Angkor Wat temple. Continue to the atmospheric jungle temple of Ta Prohm, synonymous with the film Tomb Raider. Here the ancient ruins lay beneath the winding vines and ancient trees of the Cambodian jungle; a truly remarkable sight. In the afternoon, return to your hotel to wind down, escape the midday heat and relax by the pool.
In the morning enjoy an elephant ride from the south gate of Angkor Thom to the famous Bayon Temple – a rather special way to introduce the family to the Angkor temples - before continuing your tour of the temples by foot. Your afternoon and evening are at leisure. During any visit to the Angkor temples, we ensure your day(s) remain both flexible and personal. Having met with your guide, you will be able to discuss in detail what you are looking to achieve from your time at the temples. Whilst some wish to explore as many temples as they can during their stay, others like to travel at a slower, more relaxed pace.
After breakfast, depart Siem Reap for the Tonlé Sap.We head out on to the ‘Great Lake’ and continue travelling north to Kampong Phluk; a ‘flooded forest’. Accessible only during high water, you’ll pass through the tree tops whilst seated in your boat. Nearby is a fishing village where you can also learn more about the traditional methods used for generations. Returning to the mainland, meet your driver and return to Siem Reap. Arriving mid-afternoon, the remainder of your day at leisure.
After breakfast make a visit to the nearby Silk Farm of Artisans d`Angkor in the nearby village of Puok, where you can see how Cambodian silk is traditionally made. Mulberry trees are grown to feed the silkworms, which produce the silk thread. This is harvested from the cocoons and weaved into high quality silk for high quality clothing and artwork. It`s a fascinating exhibition and the well-priced, on site shop is often too hard to resist!. Return to Siem Reap in the early afternoon. The remainder of your day is at leisure.
After breakfast, take the morning flight to Phnom Penh. Upon arrival you will be met by your English speaking guide and transferred to your hotel. After lunch, take a cycle rickshaw to the National Museum and Royal Palace before an hour long boat trip on the Mekong River to view sunset.
Morning departure (driver only) heading south towards the coastal town of Sihanoukville. Upon arrival the remainder of your day is at leisure. Sihanoukville is a lively seaside town with four excellent beaches to choose from. There is a wide range of restaurants, bars and shops as well as several islands just off the coast which make for excellent day trips.
