Chua Huong (Perfume pagoda) is located 70 km southwest of Hanoi. It is one of the highlights of the Northern area and one of the most important religious sites of Buddhism in Vietnam. The pagoda itself is built in to limestone cliffs and can only be reached by boat via Yen stream and on foot, about 5 km trekking as there are no roads in the area.
Perfume Pagoda is about two hours drive from Hanoi through the scenic countryside to reach the remote Perfume Pagoda an area made up of more than 38 temples that can only be accessed by rowing boat and on foot.
Once arrive at the small village of Duc, board a small rowing boat and glide along the Yen River soaking up the scenery and daily life on the river. After about an hour rowing boat, you will arrive at the walking point where you will walk up a steep mountain path to reach Thien Tru Pagoda, the Perfume Cave, a large natural cave teeming with burning incense and numerous shrines, and finally the Pagoda.
Each lunar new year Buddhist devotees make a pilgrimage to make merit and wish for good fortune. You will then walk back down the mountain and back to your rowing boat to return to Hanoi in the late afternoon.
